Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has secured a contract from Pioneer Generation to supply turbines with a total installed capacity of 7.65MW for the Mount Stuart wind farm in New Zealand.

The company will supply nine units of the G52-850kW wind turbine for the power project, which is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual energy needs of about 3,350 homes.

The wind farm, located 15km east of Milton in Otago, is scheduled to begin operation in 2011.

Gamesa said that the new contract is its first in the Asia Pacific wind power market and the company plans to establish a subsidiary in this region this year to offer project services as well as wind turbine operation and maintenance services.
