Spanish company Gamesa has secured order to supply wind turbines to 460 MW wind projects in India.

The company will supply 230 of its G97-2.0 MW class S and G114-2.0 MW class S turbines to seven wind power projects being built in the country.  All the projects are expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2017.

Gamesa will also be responsible for the turnkey construction of the most of the projects. In addition, it will also be responsible for supply, installation, commissioning and management of the operations and maintenance of the projects.

Under the deal, Gamesa will supply 170 of its G114-2.0 class S turbines to 340 MW wind projects and 60 of its G97-2.0 MW class S (120 MW) turbines.

G97-2.0 MW class S and G114-2.0 MW class S turbines are specially designed for low wind conditions in India.

Gamesa 2.0 MW turbines are built with fiberglass reinforced materials which can be clubbed with five rotor diameters: 80, 87, 90, 97 and 114m.

It also comes with aerodynamic design, variable pitch and speed technology and Gamesa NRS control system which help in minimizing noise emissions.

In May this year, the company had announced to build a new blade factor in Nellore, Andra Pradesh to manufacture G114-2.0 MW class S turbines. The plant will have capacity to manufacture 500 MW of turbines and expected to start in September this year.

It is company’s second blade factory in India after Halol plant in Gujarat. Gamesa has also nacelle factory in Mamandur (Chennai, Tamil Nadu) and a repair centre in Red Hills (Chennai, Tamil Nadu).

Gamesa has cited a study from MAKE saying that the Indian wind power market to add 30 GW of new capacity by 2025, with rising energy demand.

The company has so far installed over 3,000 MW of wind power since 2009 and Indian sales accounted for 26% of the company's total sales volume (in MW) during the first quarter of 2016.
