VA TECH HYDRO of Austria and UK-based Weir Engineer-ing Services (WES) have created a strategic alliance to support the anticipated growth in the service, rehabilitation and new construction of hydro power plant within the UK and Ireland.

Referring to recent UK government announcements about boosting hydroelectric generation to meet climate change targets, Peter Syme, managing director of WES and Michael Komboeck from va-tech-hydro, agree that the timing of their announcement could not have been better planned.

‘We have an excellent network of service centres already established throughout the UK,’ said Syme, ‘and these give us a first class base from which to support this market opportunity.’ Meanwhile, Dalal Consultants and Engineers, one of India’s largest management and engineering consultancies, has joined forces with Mott MacDonald.

Described as a move to create a strong base for expansion in India, the acquisition provides Mott Mac-Donald with additional resources for use throughout its international operations.

Both companies spent three years working together on the second Hyderabad water supply scheme and the Rajghat irrigation canal.

Established in 1970, Dalal brings 750 staff majoring in infrastructure, social sector and industrial development. It will now operate as Dalal Mott MacDonald and will be led by Peter Lee and Anand Dala, with Ramesh Dalal as non-executive director.
