With the plant, the company aims to become the first Canadian producer and exporter of technology grade graphite, which will be used to manufacture anodes for lithium-ion rechargeable batteries that are being used in the next generation electric vehicles.
Focus Graphite is the owner of the Lac Knife, Québec mining project, and the Graphite produced from the mine can be sold to conventional graphite markets, according to the company.
Back in May 2014 and in February 2015, the company performed battery test with Lac Knife spherical graphite and published the results, which led the company to conduct formal evaluation of a high value graphite production plant.
Focus Graphite said that Lac Knife project has already the support of local communities and a pre-development agreement with the Innu First Nation of Uashat mak Mani Utenam ("ITUM") that was announced in October, 2014.
