Engineering and construction services provider Fluor South Africa has announced the completion of a prefeasibility study (PFS) for Letlhakane diamond mine, located in Botswana.

Letlhakane diamond mine is owned by Debswana Diamond, a JV between the government of Botswana and De Beers, a South African mining firm.

The mine is reaching the end of its life, as it has been developed to the maximum design limits, Creamer Media’s Mining Weekly reported.

The project carried out by Fluor covered the development of a variety of process plant options that can help exploit the deposit in an economically viable manner.

Fluor mining and metals project manager Karel Coetzee was quoted by the publication as saying that the company has followed a structured approach, in conjunction with Debswana, to develop as well as rank various options.
