Consultants GIBB, in association with Geoconsult of Austria and ARQ Associates of South Africa, have been commissioned by the contractor Özkar to complete the redesign of Çine dam near Aydin in southwest Turkey.

The completed dam will provide flood relief to the flat, low lying downstream region which has been prone to damage from flooding. It will also provide much needed water for the downstream population in the town of Çine and the surrounding area, and generate up to 36MW of clean power. Concerns which were raised regarding the spillway and the areas for the rockfill dam have also been eliminated with the new design. The redesigned dam will be a roller compacted concrete (RCC) structure approximately 130m high.

This will also be the first RCC dam in Turkey and one of the highest in the world.
