No injuries were reported due this accident at the plant, which is owned by NRG Energy, CPS Energy and Austin Energy, reports the Associated Press.

South Texas Project spokesman Buddy Eller remarked that the fire was an "unusual event" but did not pose risk to the public.

Eller also noted that internal fire brigade had the fire out in 15 minutes, but Unit 2 was closed down while the circuit it feeds was inspected and repaired.

Located in Bay City of Texas, the nuclear power plant is capable of generating 2,700MW of carbon-free electricity. The station serves two million customers in the state.
