Exxon Mobil Corporation has commenced the Usan field project in the offshore Nigeria that can produce 180,000 barrels of oil per day gross.
The Usan field production facilities include a floating production, storage and offloading vessel and 42 sub-sea wells.
The field, discovered in 2002, is located in water depths of 2,400 feet 62 miles from the coast.
ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso E&P Nigeria in the offshore East, holds a 30% interest in the deepwater project while Total E&P Nigeria is the operator.
ExxonMobil is present in both shallow water shelf and deepwater acreage offshore Nigeria.
In the deepwater, ExxonMobil has interests in seven blocks, operates the producing Erha and Erha North fields and also produces from the co-venturer operated Bonga field.
Partners in the Usan project include Esso E&P Nigeria (Offshore East) and Chevron Petroleum Nigeria each holding a 30% stake, and Total E&P Nigeria and Nexen Petroleum Nigeria with 20% stake respectively.
