A new publication entitled Suggested References for Dam Safety Programs examines 75 references from 16 general categories of materials, all of which represent knowledge deemed essential for dam personnel.

Copies are available from the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) at a cost of $5.

A pamphlet describing the early signs of internal erosion and how to deal with it has been compiled by a team of experts, including the late geotechnical engineer Ronald Hirschfield.

Responsibilities of Dam Ownership: Internal Erosion of Earth Dams, also available from ASDSO, focuses on piping problems in earth dams. Piping is the internal erosion of soil particles from within a dam by water that seeps through the dam.
