The remaining units of the (3X 30MW) power plant are scheduled to be commissioned in phases in the coming months.
The 120MW coal-fired power plant is expected to meet the power requirement of Essar Steel’s 12 million tons per annum integrated palletisation facility in Odisha.
The palletisation facility features a palletisation plant at Paradeep and a beneficiation plant at Dabuna, which is connected through a 253km slurry pipeline.
Essar Steel will be able to access cheap and reliable power supply, upon completion of the project.
Additionally, the 220kV transmission line has been commissioned from plant switchyard to Main Receiving Sub Station (MRSS) of steel plant.
Meanwhile, Essar Ports already launched the related infrastructure including port facility for coal handling.
The company said that the fuel and water supply responsibility rests with Essar Steel, as per the power purchase agreement, thereby protecting Essar Power from the vagaries of coal price volatility.
Essar Power owns and operates power plants, with a total generation capacity of 6,700MW, in India and Canada.
