ABB and Siemens have concluded a licensing and cooperation agreement with Eskom for the transfer of high temperature reactor (HTR) technology. With this licensing agreement, Eskom gains non-exclusive rights for the use of HTR expertise to construct high temperature reactors, and in the fabrication and sale of HTR fuel.
Eskom intends to construct small high temperature reactors of around 100 MWe capacity, using spherical fuel elements.
