The Russian Group of Companies Sevkabel has supplied cable and wire products for the Belarus NPP and three more shipments will be made by October 2015, according to Sevkabel’s acting commercial director Alexei Kaukiajnen.
Sevkabel won a tender for the contract in March organized by Belelektromontazh Company. The nuclear plant, being built by Russia to the AES-2006 design at Ostrovets will comprise two 1200MWe units. Russia’s NIAEP-ASE is general designer and contractor of the project with unit 1 due for commissioning in 2018 and unit 2 in 2020.
Earlier this month Belarusian president Aleksandr Lukashenka said he hoped the schedule would be met but also warned against rushing the construction process and compromising on quality. He said that most of the staff members would be graduates of Belarusian higher education institutions, although key posts would be held by Russian experts, adding that Belarus could not introduce postgraduate or Master’s programmes to staff the plant.
Russian regulator Rostechnadzor and the Belarus Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (Gosatomnadzor) recently agreed to continue cooperation in supervising construction of the plant.
Russia’s Power Machines has produced and tested the high-speed 1200MWe turbine for unit 1 and is also contracted to supply the turbine for unit 2. The company will supervise installation of the equipment. German concern KSB and Siemens are to supply ten 6200kW SIMOTICSHV H-compact Plus three-phase asynchronous electric motors for the multi-stage feeding pumps to supply water to the steam generators. The first batch of the equipment will be delivered at the end of 2015.
