The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made a decision that could result in a 6-month delay in the start-up of the Monroe fossil-fired plant in Louisiana, operated by Entergy.
Entergy Louisiana had wanted to restart the plant this summer to address potential energy shortages during the peak summer demand. The 138 MWe plant has been out of operation for the last 12 years. The EPA has ruled that the Monroe plant must use the ‘Best available control technology’ to reduce pollution. Because significant changes have occurred in pollution control technology since the plant was built, some changes in equipment will be required.
