The facility, which will be locetd in Willacy County, will be the company's twenty second US wind farm.

Nordex will supply 76 of its AW125/3000 turbines for the wind farm, which is expected to be commissioned at the end of next year.

The IEC-2b turbines will have a rotor diameter of 125m and will be installed on 87.5m tubular steel towers.

Nordex said the turbines have been designed to generate power at medium wind speed conditions.

E.ON Climate & Renewables CEO Michael Lewis said: “This decision reflects our strong commitment to further develop renewables in the US market.

“Projects like Bruenning’s Breeze demonstrate that we are clearly competitive with conventional power and we will continue our goal to further drive down the costs of renewable energy,”

E.ON started its first wind farm operations in the US in early 1980s.  The company has an overall installed capacity of more than 3GW in wind power in North America.

Its US portfolio includes the Roscoe wind farm in Roscoe, Texas, which produces 782MW of energy.

E.ON is presently working on projects with generating capacity of 1.3GW. The projects include offshore wind projects such as Rampion in the UK, Arkona in Germany and onshore projects such as Radford’s Run and Bruenning’s Breeze in the US.

The company operates in more than 90 nations and has generated sales of around €43bn. Worldwide, the company has invested about €10bn on renewables with a capacity of 5.3GW.

The turbine supplier Nordex, a German manufacturer has installed about 20GW of wind energy capacity in more than 25 markets.

Its portfolio of turbines includes 1.5 to 3.6MW class, which are designed with the requirements of developed and emerging markets.
