Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF) has been awarded a multi-million dollar, 10-year contract to supply fuel fabrication and reload-engineering services for Entergy Corp’s five boiling water reactors (BWRs).
GNF, a joint-venture of GE, Hitachi and Toshiba, will supply reactors operated by Entergy Nuclear with its latest fuel bundle design and a series of reload engineering services, including reactor core and bundle design.
Under the contract, GNF will provide fuel fabrication and reload engineering services for the utility’s Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, Mississippi, the River Bend Station in St. Francisville, Louisianna, the James A. FitzPatrick plant in Oswego County, New York, Vermont Yankee in Vernon, Vermont., and the Pilgrim Nuclear Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts, starting in 2008.
Entergy Nuclear Selects Black & Veatch for Services to Support Possible New Nuclear Unit in Louisiana
In a separate deal, Entergy Nuclear has selected Black & Veatch to assist with various analyses in support of preparations to apply for a combined construction and operating license (COL) for a possible new nuclear unit to be located adjacent to the River Bend plant.
Black & Veatch’s support work will include safety analyses, system descriptions, environmental impact and many other technical and operational studies that must be completed before Entergy can submit the COL application, scheduled for early 2008 and which could be approved by the NRC in 2010 or 2011.
