Under the unitization and unit operating agreement (UUOA), the firms will develop natural gas reservoirs ranging Areas 4 and 1 in Rovuma Basin.

The partnership will focus on the natural gas straddling reservoirs Mamba and Prosperidade, located in Area 4 and 1 respectively.

As per the terms of the UUOA, the firms will separately involve in the development of the straddling reservoirs initially through coordinating each other in the two areas, until 24 Tcf of natural gas reserves (12 Tcf of natural gas from each area) will be reached.

The companies will jointly involve in the future development of the areas through appointing a joint operator, under the joint venture with equal stake.

Anadarko global LNG executive vice president Mitch Ingram said, "We appreciate the cooperation of the Government of Mozambique, Eni and our co-venturers in Offshore Area 1 for their collaborative efforts in achieving this UUOA, which is fair, equitable and consistent with best industry practices."

The UUOA was developed in collaboration with the 11 concessionaires, and is subject to final approval by the government of Mozambique.

Eni East Africa is the operator of Area 4 with 70% stake, while other concessionaires include Galp Energia, Kogas and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) with 10% interest each.

CNPC has a 20% indirect interest in Area 4 through Eni East Africa.

Anadarko Mozambique Area 1 is the operator of Area 1 with a 26.5% stake, while other concessionaires include ENH with 15% interest, Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1with 20%, BPRL Ventures Mozambique and ONGC Videsh with 10% each and PTTEP Mozambique Area 1 with 8.5%.
