The contract would use EnergyConnect’s GridConnect platform to enable Virginia state agencies, educational facilities and other public bodies to earn payments for reduction in energy usage during peak grid demand time.
The program enables the state agencies like hospitals, prisons and municipal facilities with access to EnergyConnect’s demand response services and advantageous pricing with 75 state organizations already enrolled.
EnergyConnect demand response service is claimed to have driven financial and energy benefits to its customers and has reduced the need for electrical utilities to build additional generating plants, transmission, and distribution lines.
EnergyConnect evaluates energy usage portfolio of each participating facility and develops mechanisms of energy usage reduction, without adversely affecting operations or occupant comfort levels, during times of peak demand.
Users participating in demand response programs earn revenue to be utilised for funding other necessary resources, such as facility upgrades and energy efficiency projects.
