The $410,000 funding includes a phase I Department of Defense Small Business Innovation Research grant to develop additional Intellitube LED lighting fixtures for the Naval Air Systems Command; increased VHESC funding for advanced coatings development; and a grant for manufacturing optical designs.
The funding, which brings the company’s external funding of R&D projects in 2010 to $3m, will be utilized to develop Intellitube energy efficient lighting system that will offer both energy savings and longer life over fluorescent bulb alternatives for commercial and military applications.
Energy Focus chief technical officer Roger Buelow said that the company is especially excited about this additional funding since the work on all three projects directly contributes to the development of its LED Intellitube technology.
