Energex said that a range of new electrical equipment, designed to improve response times when power interruptions occur, was recently installed in the area.
Paul Rainbird, Energex’s group manager for network reliability and maintenance, said: During the summer storm season it’s not uncommon for tree branches, high winds and lightning strikes to cause power interruptions. As part of Energex’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and reliable electricity supply, we have installed a range of new equipment to assist our crews with restoring the power as quickly and safely as possible.
Line fault indicators are installed on the overhead powerlines at strategic locations across Energex’s network. If a fault occurs somewhere on a powerline, the device will start flashing a red neon light, which Energex crews look out for when they’re trying to locate the cause of the power interruption. The flashing lights make it easier and quicker for our crews to locate the fault, especially in rural areas with long powerlines, which ultimately means they get the power back on faster.
