The company secured the right to enter into power supply contracts for the power projects.
The off-take contracts were awarded to EGP in the fourth phase of the country’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) program.
EGP said that the €500m projects mark an important step in strengthening its presence in Africa.
Scheduled to be built in the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces, in areas with abundant wind resources, the three wind power projects include 142MW Oyster Bay, 141MW Nxuba and 142MW Karusa.
The Oyster Bay and Nxuba projects are planned to be commissioned in 2017, while Karusa will be operational in 2018.
Capable of generating around 1,560GWh per year, the three projects will significantly contribute to meet the energy demands in South Africa.
EGP currently operates 10MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant already in Upington, Northern Cape, and has 513MW of projects awarded in the third phase of the tender.
