Enel, through its Mexican renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power México (EGPM), has connected the two wind farms to the national electricity grid.

While the 129MW Palo Alto wind farm is located in the State of Jalisco, the 100MW Vientos del Altiplano wind farm in Zacatecas State.

Enel’s Renewable Energies for Central America head and Enel Green Power México general director Paolo Romanacci said: “Renewables play a key role in the diversification of the country’s energy mix, while boosting its sustainable economic development.

“With these two new plants, we are contributing to Mexico’s clean energy targets as well as creating shared value for local communities through sustainable agriculture and other infrastructure projects carried out in cooperation with local partners.”

The company invested nearly $250m in the construction of Palo Alto wind farm, which is supported by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The plant features 43 wind turbines with each having a capacity of 3MW and it is capable of generating over 350GWh per year.

 Enel invested $220m in building Vientos del Altiplano wind farm, which comprises 50 wind turbines, each with 2MW of capacity.

The wind farm is expected to generate over 280GWh annually, equivalent to the yearly energy consumption of over 161,000 Mexican households.

In Mexico, Enel around 729MW of installed capacity, of which 675MW is wind power and 53MW hydropower.

The company is also set to construct the 93 MW wind project Salitrillos in the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
