The annual output of the farm, which is being built 10km from the Ambon wind farm that is currently being built by Ecotecnia France, is equivalent to the consumption of approximately 22,000 people.
According to Endesa, the wind farm will save approximately 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The Muzillac facility will be equipped with six ECO 80 turbines each with a capacity of 1.67MW and measuring 70m in height with a rotor diameter of 80m.
The excavation and civil engineering work is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2008, with the farm due to come on-stream on October 15, 2008.
In March 2007, Endesa France inaugurated its first wind farm at Lehaucourt, with 10MW of installed capacity. At present Endesa France has almost 74MW of wind capacity between those wind farms in operation and those under construction.
Endesa said that these initiatives are aimed at meeting peaks in demand by giving priority to technologies that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions, in line with the French government’s goal of generating 21% of electricity from renewable energies by 2010.
The initiative, which is being carried out with the support of Endesa’s cogeneration and renewables subsidiary, is also part of the company’s renewables plan, which aims to install nearly 200MW of wind energy in France through to 2009.
