Iberdrola and Endesa jacking up spend
Spanish electricity company Endesa has revealed it spent more than €1 billion on improving and developing its electricity distribution network in Spain in 2004, more than 50% above its investment of 2003. The bulk of the investment went on the distribution grids in Andalusia and Catalonia regions. Andalusian investment totalled €407 million in 2004, compared with €205 million in 2003, while €409 million went into Catalonia in 2004, compared with euro 315 million in 2003.
In a separate move, the company has announced that its€20.18 million, 21.12 MW wind park in the Galician province of Lugo has begun commercial operations.
Spanish rivals Iberdrola have also been busy. The company has recently announced plans to develop up to 232 MW of new wind capacity in France and Italy through to 2007. Some 32 MW of capacity are expected to be installed this year and a further 100 MW in each of the following years.
