The projects – the Tilbury solar project and the Amherstburg II project – have a total generating capacity of 20MW.
First Solar completed construction of the 5MW Tilbury project in December 2010, while construction of the 15MW Amherstburg II project is expected to begin in March 2011.
The Amherstburg II solar project consists of two separate facilities and its construction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2011.
Electricity generated by the facilities will be sold to the Ontario Power Authority under 20-year power purchase agreements.
First Solar will provide operations and maintenance services for the power projects under long-term contracts.
