The two projects — a 140MW Pacific Wind and a 143MWp Catalina Solar project — have been independently developed and contracted, but their proximity to each other has made them into one of the largest wind/solar hybrid projects in the country, said EDF.
The Pacific Wind project, which became operational recently, features REpower MM92 turbines and is expected to generate renewable energy enough to power 56,000 households.
Catalina Solar project with82MWp Solar Frontier and 60MWp First Solar PV modules will generate electricity for 35,000 homes. The first phase is expected to be operational by December 2012.
EDF Renewable Energy Southwest Region vice president Mark Tholke said, "Pacific Wind and Catalina Solar are the direct result of California’s renewable energy mandate, as well as the federal production tax credit and the investment tax credit."
