Initial work with CLTC involves member companies Beta-LED, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PGE), Southern California Edison (SCE) and San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDGE) to develop and demonstrate a network-enabled smart LED streetlight system.
Control networking will play an increasingly significant role in lighting products, said Michael Siminovitch, CLTC’s director. The affiliate program at CLTC connects education, research, and industry to share information regarding energy efficient lighting products and practices. Innovative technology developments and partnerships created through this program aim to increase the availability and quality of energy efficient lighting products on the market.

Echelon’s power line signaling technology and i.LON SmartServer streetlight segment controller are currently used in streetlight systems in Oslo, Norway; Ville de Quebec, Canada; numerous cities in France and Germany; and demonstration sites in Anchorage, Alaska, and San Francisco and San Jose, California.
