The new loan will finance the rehabilitation of six units at the hydro power plant with a total generating capacity of 210MW on the Bistrita River in north-eastern Romania.
EBRD will provide EUR70m of the total financing, with EUR40m being syndicated via commercial banks – Erste Bank and Caixabank.
Hidroelectrica general manager Constantin Trihenea said that the EUR110m loan covers about 80% of the project cost, which stands at EUR136.9m.
"Hidroelectrica will cover the difference in the project’s total cost using its own internal sources," Trihenea said.
Hidroelectrica manages a network of 273 hydro power facilities and pumping stations with a total capacity of 6,482MW.
