The program, funded by the EBRD’s Shareholder Special Fund, will examine issues related to legal and regulatory framework, general awareness, capacity and low penetration of energy efficient technologies in the country to assist the Ukrainian Ministry of Housing and Communal Services.
It will also help develop a web-based information platform that will provide up-to-date information on suitable technological offerings, financing opportunities, project case studies and prepare legislation necessary for energy efficiency investments into the sector.
The program is coordinated with other IFIs and international organizations in Ukraine, which could potentially absorb energy efficiency investments worth around EUR60bn in residential buildings sector to result in energy savings of over 60,000,000MWh per year.
Ukraine deputy minister of housing and communal services Grigoriy Semchuk said that the ministry fully supports this initiative of the EBRD and believes that the program could be of great use for the Ukrainian municipal sector, which urgently requires significant investments in energy efficiency.
