American students have just over a month to submit their applications for the 2004–2005 Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) undergraduate scholarship.

A prize of up to US$5000 is up for grabs for students looking to follow a career in the dam design, construction and operation fields.

In order to qualify for the prize, ASDSO demands that applicants be US citizens, studying full-time on accredited civil engineering or related programmes. Potential winners are also expected to show an interest in hydraulics, hydrology or geotechnical disciplines.

The annual award was set up in 1992, but since last year only senior level undergraduates have been qualified to apply. Students have until 31 March to apply for the 2004–2005 prize.

Last year, the prize was shared between three women, each picking up US$1600 for their studies in the 2003–2004 academic year.
