UK-based Countryside Renewables has secured a planning permission to construct a 5MW solar photovoltaic project in Exning, Suffolk.
The proposed project will be located near the horse racing town of Newmarket and will generate enough to electricity to power 1,200 homes across the Exning Village per annum.
Commenting on the developments Countryside Renewables director Denis Gross predicted that the Exning Village will achieve self-sufficiency in power generation on an annual basis.
Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in 2013.
The Exning project marks further growth in the company’s utility-scale solar portfolio in South England and East Anglia.
According to the company the electricity produced will cost lower when compared to offshore wind parks and the project will be the first to provide a reactive power control to the grid.
