British engineering firm Costain has won a £75m framework contract from Magnox South to clean up Fuel Element Debris (FED) dissolution at Bradwell nuclear power station in the UK.

As per the contract, Costain will design plant and equipment and will procure, construct, operate and refurbish plant.

Costain said that the contract runs over ten years with possible extensions.

The contract is part of the nuclear station’s accelerated decommissioning program, with similar programs at other Magnox Sites namely, Hinkley Point, Sizewell and Oldbury to be awarded.

Magnox South sites are currently decommissioning at the end of operational life while this framework is important for the safe remediation and disposal of FED produced during the generating life of the power stations.
