Located 2.9km north of the Callawonga field, the Sensation-1 well will be drilled to a depth of 1,923m in the Merrimelia Formation with plans to complete the work within next eight days.
The exploration well aims to test a mapped anticlinal structure located 3km north of the Callawonga Field.
It will primarily focus on the Namur Sandstone, while the secondary targets are the oil-bearing McKinlay Member, Birkhead Formation and Poolowanna Formation.
The Sensation-1 drilling is part of a three well drilling campaign, and comes after the appraisal of Callawonga-10 and Callawonga-11 wells in PPL 220.
Beach Energy operates the PRL 98 with a 75% stake, while Cooper Energy holds the remainder.
