Con Edison Development and Panda Power Funds have started construction of a 20MW solar electric generating station in Pilesgrove, New Jersey.

The 71,400-panel solar farm is expected to produce enough renewable energy to power more than 5,100 homes.

The stationary panels at the facility are designed to minimize glare and absorb more than 95% of available sunlight, the companies said.

Con Edison Development and Panda Power Funds signed an agreement in last April to develop, construct and operate utility-scale solar projects in the northeast US.

As per the agreement, Panda Power Funds assumes primary responsibility for managing the development, engineering and construction of the projects.

Con Edison Development assumes the responsibility for managing the operation, maintenance and financing of the facilities, and marketing the Solar Renewable Energy Credits and the electricity generated by the projects.

Con Edison Development is a subsidiary of investor-owned energy company Consolidated Edison.
