A consortium led by SMEC and including WS Atkins, EGC and BARQAAB Pakistan, has been awarded the design review and construction supervision contract for the New Khanki Barrage Project by the Punjab Irrigation and Power Department in Pakistan.

The project involves construction of a new barrage at Khanki on the River Chenab. The new barrage will include a main gated weir approximately 300m downstream of the existing weir, a new regulator with six 9m bays and a barrage with two abutments and 62 piers. A 1.3km bridge will be constructed over the main barrage with two fish ladders either side for fish migration.
