The US company CMS Energy Corp. has acquired a 50 per cent stake in a 300 MW power plant under construction in Thailand. The company paid $60 million in equity to the Soon Hua Seng Group for a half share in the project.

The two 150 MW coal fired cogeneration units are being constructed in an industrial park 140 km east of Bangkok. They are scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 1999.

The power plant will sell 60 per cent of its output to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand under the company’s small power producer programme and the remainder to the industrial park. It will also produce up to 167 t/h of process steam under contract to industrial plants including an adjacent pulp and paper mill.

The plant will incorporate two fluidized bed boilers supplied by US company Foster Wheeler. Steam turbines will be supplied by GEC Alsthom and ABB is providing instrumentation and control for the project.
