Under the biomass renewable energy operating contract, CEC will develop the integrated biomass power station in Bagac, Bataan, reports The Philippine Star.

The giant napier grass (GNG), which will be sourced though through a GreenDay Agri Farm-managed plantation, will be used as the main feedstock by the facility.

Construction of the project is scheduled to commence in 2015 with planned completion in October 2017.

CEC president and CEO Francisco Dayrit said: "The power plant would not only augment power supply in Luzon, but would also help contribute to the preservation of the environment as its output is carbon neutral."

The power plant will feature direct fired boiler technology which uses advanced engineering in order to achieve 90% efficiency.

Bataan Governor Albert Garcia said: "We welcome and support renewable, environmentally responsible energy projects such as this because it would provide economical source of energy as well as job opportunities to the people of Bataan."
