Fuel retailer Royal Dutch Shell Group has launched the Shell MasterCard from Citibank onto the Hungarian market. The card offers rewards in the form of rebates for future Shell purchases and has an introductory 6% double rebate on fuel purchases.

To encourage customer applications, Shell and Citibank have doubled the card’s regular 3% rebate on Shell fuel purchases in Hungary and 1% rebate on all other purchases as part of the introductory promotion. The launch offer applies for all cards issued before January 31, 2007 and it refers to transactions made within the first 60 days of the card’s issuing date.

After the 60-day period, the rebate reverts back to 3% on Shell fuel purchases in Hungary and 1% on all other retail purchases wherever the card is used in the country and abroad. Supplementary cards are also included in the rebate program, although rebates may only be redeemed by the main cardholders.

The Shell MasterCard from Citibank has an annual fee of HUF6,400 for Classic main cards, and HUF3,900 for the supplementary cards from the second year. Gold main cardholders are charged an annual fee of HUF16,400 and Gold supplementary cardholders pay a HUF9,800 annual fee from the second year. The first year annual fee for Gold and Classic supplementary cards is waived.
