Southern Company and Turner Renewable Energy have energized the 30MW Cimarron solar photovoltaic plant in Colfax County, New Mexico.

The solar facility was developed and constructed by First Solar, which will also provide operation and maintenance services for the plant under a long-term contract.

The companies acquired the facility from First Solar in March 2010 and electricity generated by the plant will be supplied to the member electric cooperatives of Denver-based Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The 364-acre plant site is located within the service territory of Tri-State member system Springer Electric Cooperative in Colfax County and is adjacent to Turner’s Vermejo Park Ranch.
