When complete, the facility will manufacture 25,000 barrels per day of premium base oil, the main ingredient in the production of motor oil which Chevron says improves fuel economy, lowers tail-pipe emissions and extends the time between oil changes.

Once the facility operates, the Pascagoula Base Oil Project (PBOP) is projected to generate approximately 1,000 jobs over the next two years of construction and about 20 permanent positions, according to the company.

The company said that premium base oil produced in Pascagoula is intended to serve markets in North America, Latin America and Europe.

The construction is slated to be completed by the year-end of 2013.
