Cape Wind Associates has received a permit from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to build a 468MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts.

This final federal permit was secured a day after the power project was given permission by the US Army Corps of Engineers for work in navigable federal waters.

The wind farm will include 130 offshore turbines on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound.

With the permitting process complete, and with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities recent approval of the project’s power purchase contract with National Grid, Cape Wind said it will now focus on securing project finance.

Last year, the US Department of Interior approved the wind farm and granted the project with the nation’s first offshore wind power lease.
