Canadian Solar said it supplied modules for a 70MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Italy, built by solar energy services provider SunEdison.

SunEdison has interconnected the Rovigo power plant in northeast Italy, which is a single-operating solar PV facility.

In its first year of operation, the system is expected to generate enough energy to power more than 16,500 homes and prevent the CO2 emission of more than 40,000 tons.

The power project was acquired by First Reserve through an earlier joint venture between Canadian Solar and SunEdison.

The Rovigo facility is said to be the largest capacity solar PV plant in Europe.
