The Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management of the Netherlands has announced it wishes to tender the calculation, analysis and reporting of flood probabilities of dikes, dunes and hydraulic structures as well as of consequences of flooding for the Flood Risks and Safety in the Netherlands (Floris) project.

Along with the water boards and provinces, the Floris project will assess the probabilities, as well as consequences and uncertainties of flooding in the Netherlands. A new computational method will be used for this purpose, designed to quantify accurately the probabilities of flooding.

Following this, dike rings will be examined to see how reliable they are and to identify any weak points. To this day, little is known about the safety of hydraulic structures (e.g. locks and pumping stations) in particular, even though they are major elements in dike rings.

The Floris project’s subtopic is to spread knowledge of new computational methods. Therefore the project intends to tender five geographically assigned lots, which are technically equivalent. The bidding documents are in Dutch and now available.
