The enhancements include how proposed projects can be independently studied and improve the fast track study process.
The work continues interconnection reforms that started in 2008 with an intention to set up study processes to manage the large influx of renewable resources and offer developers clear procedures and expectations.
An earlier reform passed in 2008 combined proposed projects into geographically related clusters and approved projects also include new screens for how small developments lower than 5MW can qualify for the fast track study process.
California ISO president and CEO Steve Berberich said, "We continue to look for ways to further the development of renewables and make the interconnection process easier. Taken all together, these new rules mean the ISO can review projects more quickly and they can advance with a greater confidence in achieving commercial operation."
