Projects expected to be funded must employ feedstock such as waste-based biomass; agricultural residues; purpose-grown fuel crops; woody biomass and forest residues; animal manures; food waste; municipal solid waste; and sewage.
The funding from CEC will be available over a four-year term for each project, with no single application expected to be awarded over $820,000.
Bench-scale projects will be awarded a maximum of $400,000 while working demonstration unit and prototype development projects can be awarded a maximum of $820,000.
Targeted projects under the initiative include those that incorporate bench-scale research and development and/or prototype-scale demonstration of advanced technologies that demonstrate the potential to supply renewable natural gas transportation fuels in California.
