In June 2000 TURKISH COMPANY ERG Insaat Ticaret ve Sanayi signed a contract with Germany’s Krupp Fördertechnik for the supply, erection supervision and commissioning of three cable cranes. These will be used to assist with the construction of Deriner dam in Turkey.

The project is located in the northeast of Turkey on the Coruh river. Dam construction will take place in a deep, clearly defined V-shaped valley, with both flanks reaching up to an elevation of more than 1000m asl. The gorge walls have an average slope of 45°. With the help of the three cable cranes, approximately 3.5Mm3 of concrete will be used for the arch dam and appurtenant structures.

The cable cranes, each with a carrying capacity of 28 tons, have a span of 740m and a hoisting height of 280m. The contract period for the design, manufacture, delivery, erection and commissioning of the structures is around 20 months.

With this contract under its belt, Krupp Fördertechnik has now supplied 175 cable cranes for dam projects worldwide. One of the com- pany’s most recent successes was the supply of two cable cranes for the Three Gorges dam in China.
