As part of the financing, the company finalized $1.6bn in loans guaranteed by the US Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office.

BrightSource also said that Google will join as an equity investor in the project by making a $168m investment.

In October 2010, NRG Solar announced its commitment to invest up to $300m to become the lead investor in the project.

The solar project, which is under construction, is a 392 gross-megawatt facility consisting of three separate solar thermal power plants.

The facility is located on approximately 3,500 acres of federal land managed by the US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management.

The project is expected to be completed in 2013 and will produce enough clean energy to power approximately 140,000 homes.

The electricity generated from the solar project will be sold to Pacific Gas and Electric and Southern California Edison.
