The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has developed a wastewater treatment plant at Banganga wastewater pumping station in Walkeshwar of Maharashtra, India.
According to the company, the new plant is capable of treating 1.5 million liter water that will be distributed by May 2014 end in Raj Bhavan garden, Kamala Nehru Park, Priyadran garden with State Ministers’ garden and other areas in Walkeshwar.
The cost of the new Banganga wastewater treatment is estimated to be around INR25m.
Beginning 15 May 2014, BMC is set to supply first 500,000 liter filtered wastewater to Walkeshwar area.
The company said the filtered water will be used for gardening, washing cars, road cleaning as well as for construction work.
BMC further said that no chemicals will be used for wastewater filter processing at the plant rather it uses only biological processes.
BMC Sewage Operation Department deputy engineer R. M. Chaukar said, "The filtered water will be supplied to the Raj Bhavan Garden through a pipeline and the BMC water department will take up this project."
