The new coal-fueled unit, Wygen III, is to be located at the Black Hills Wyodak Energy Complex near Gillette, and is currently in the regulatory approval process.
As program manager, Black & Veatch will use its proprietary design tool, Powrtrak, to perform all detailed mechanical engineering of the plant and oversee electrical and structural engineering of the new unit and its air quality control systems.
Mark Lux, vice president of power delivery for Black Hills, said: Black & Veatch has the tools, technology and expertise for designing this new unit that will be even more efficient, and utilize highly sophisticated emissions reduction technology. When completed, the unit will be among plants with the lowest emissions for a coal-fired generating plant in the US, and will be designed with two technologies for mercury removal.
