Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has received bids from three consortiums to construct the 750MW La Yesca hydroelectric project on the Santiago river.

According to reports from Reuters, the consortiums are led by Impregilo of Italy, Mexico’s ICA and Sinohydro Corp of China, with bids ranging from US$805M to US$1.25B.

Located in the Mexican states of Nayarit and Jalisco, the La Yesca dam will have a basin of 12Mm3, and is expected to be complete in 2011. Up to 10,000 jobs will be created during the project’s construction.

The winning bid is due to be announced on 27 October.
