Pakistan’s 3660MW Bhasha-Diamer dam is due to begin construction in 2007, following the completion of its feasibility study.

The Chairman of the Water Resources and Power Department Authority (WAPDA) Tariq Hamid told Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Azizthat in a briefing that the design of engineering work is being primed by a consortium of consultants lead by Lahmeyer of Germany. The project should be complete by the scheduled year of 2016.

Bhasha-Diamer dam is expected to cost US$6.5B and will add around 3-4% to Pakistan’s GDP.
